Who Needs a Celebration?

We do! So snuggle up with your family, pop the corn, make the warm drinks and welcome a new year of opportunity to raise our voices for what we love – a healthy climate, protected public lands, and clean water!

We’ll be raising our hot cocoa to these great MM wins:

The confirmation of Deb Haaland as the first woman and Native American to lead the Department of the Interior and Tracy Stone-Manning (a Montana Mama) leading the Bureau of Land Management. More women at the table!

We helped pass climate legislation in Colorado that will both put our state on a path to reduce our carbon pollution in a meaningful way and also begin to address the fact that communities of color have long borne more than their share of pollution. Mountain Mamas advocate for a healthy climate for our kids and the generations to come, and this was an important step in securing it.

Advocating for the passage of important protected public lands + clean water bills in CO/MT – Mountain Mamas are still in the ring rallying support for wilderness, sustainable management and recreation, and clean water. We won’t stop until we get these passed.

There’s always more to do (we know that as Mamas), but let’s refill our tanks with these inspirational stories, like:

Pedal Through

Pedal Through invites us into the world of director-lead Analise Cleopatra as she discovers the healing and joy of mountain biking. Analise had never camped or ridden a bike off the pavement when she decided to plan a week-long mountain biking adventure with an all Black female team: her best friend and fellow newcomer to the sport, DeJuanae Toliver, and professional mountain biker Brooklyn Bell.

Together, they traverse the Oregon backcountry on an adventure full of exploration, curiosity, waterfalls, old growth forest, sparkling starscapes, and deep healing. With raw authenticity, Analise shares all the intimate foibles, fear, fun, and beauty of discovering her place in the outdoors. The landscape opens to greet her as she learns to lean into uncertainty, accept support and trust herself on this wild ride.

If a ticket isn’t in the budget for you, we’ve got you covered. Just click here to get a free ticket to the festival. We ALL need some inspiration heading into 2022!
And even if you can’t make the show, will you consider making a year-end gift to the Mountain Mamas so we can kick off the New Year ready to fight for our families’ outdoor quality of life?

And there’s more to come in 2022…

In Montana, we’ll continue to advance the Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Act and other place-based, Montana-made collaborative proposals for public lands management, as well as growing, educating, and inspiring climate justice advocates. And we’ll be kicking off the Mamas Rural! program to facilitate community development around parks, trails, and playgrounds.

In Colorado, we’ll continue to push for policies that eliminate climate changing greenhouse gas emissions in every sector through both the Colorado Climate Action Plan and President Biden’s Build Back Better proposal. We’ll also champion efforts to clean up our air and to protect the public lands that draw families to Colorado.

Becoming Ruby

Not seeing herself reflected in the outdoor industry, mountain biker, skier and artist Brooklyn Bell created her own role model: a hand-drawn hero called Ruby J, and Brooklyn spent the next few years trying to “live like her, breathe like her, be unapologetically black like her.” With Ruby J as a guide, Brooklyn has come to discover and shape her own identity, one that intertwines her love for dirt, snow, and art—and a voice with which to advocate for diversity and inclusion.

These Films are Just the Ticket

You deserve inspiration, and so does your family. And we think this night will give you just that.

We have curated a selection of films that are family-friendly, empowering and inspiring, and running just 95 minutes so everyone can make their bedtime.

Here’s a Taste:

Stoke Chasers

Stoke Chasers follows the story of a group of bold, young women who are breaking out of the mold to start a new kind of movement. Facing generations of stigma, these Stoke Chasers must overcome the social and mental barriers to pursue their burning aspirations. By leaving fear behind and building a community, these young women discover something profound and exciting about life.

Superbloom

Today, images of the outdoors are focused on how people look, their gender, and what they are wearing while outdoors. But how we feel out there seems more important. Colors zooming by. Nature as our second skin. Confetti leaves and trail parties, cake snacks and hard laughs. Superbloom envisions our shared technicolor experience in the outdoors. This is where buds grow.
